“Meaning in Motion” is an art project that proposes an open-ended dialogue between image and viewer through motion, language, color, and form. Through his imagery, Gimenez Zapiola is interested in how, through language and the meaning of words we feel compelled to reflection, as the passing train captures these passing moments framed by the open ended poetry.

The exhibition is a collection of photos, video, projections and a site-specific media performance which will be unique to the gallery at TBH Center. Meaning in Motion is an art project that proposes an open-ended dialogue between image and viewer through motion, language, color, and form. The exhibition will feature video, still photos and animations from some of the most interesting projections the artist has captured over the past two years. During the opening reception the artist will be accompanied by local sound artist Carlos Pozo. The evening will include live Projections by Gimenez Zapiola while an original soundscape will be created by Carlos Pozo.

Pablo Gimenez Zapiola is a graphic artist and designer, with an architecture background, whose explorations have increasingly drawn attention. “Meaning in Motion” is an exhibition in which Gimenez Zapiola experiments projecting words onto passing trains.

Originally from Argentina, he became interested in projecting text during the 1990s, after learning about British and Dutch designers who were incorporating it into their artwork. He began projecting words from the dictionary onto walls and photographing the results. In later experiments, long exposures were used in photographing the text projected on moving trains which resulted in transparencies, multiplicities, and fragmentation of the words as they adapted to the continuously changing surface of the train cars in motion. Through large-scale projections of words, literary passages and poems onto moving trains as well as from a moving car onto the environment (houses, trees, buildings, fences, freeways, etc.), Gimenez Zapiola investigates how different environments and contexts affect the projected words, and how the projected words affect the environments.

His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Argentina (Espacio Buenos Aires, Fundación Hampatu), and the US (Schneider Gallery - Chicago, Lehigh University Art Galleries - Pennsylvania, Art Crawl, Project Row Houses, Bering & James, Diverse Works, Talento Bilingüe - Houston, ArtHouse - Austin, as well as featured on several art and photography blogs. His work is part of private collections from Argentina, UK and the US. Born in Argentina he now lives and works in Houston, TX.be accompanied by local sound artist Carlos Pozo. The evening will include live Projections by Gimenez Zapiola while an original soundscape will be created by Carlos Pozo.
